Illinois and Florida State rise to the Top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings
In a thrilling weekend of college football action, several teams showcased their prowess, while others faced unexpected challenges.
Mississippi State Stuns No. 12 Arizona State
Quarterback Blake Sharpen led Mississippi State to a 24-20 victory over No. 12 Arizona State, marking an impressive start to the season for the Bulldogs.
Oklahoma's Offensive Showcase
John Mateer had a standout performance for Oklahoma, completing 21 of 34 passes for 270 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also led the team in rushing with 74 yards and two scores.
However, growing pains were evident for Oklahoma's quarterback Bryce Underwood, who completed just nine of 24 passes for 124 yards in their opening game.
Michigan and Oklahoma Face Off
Michigan traveled to No. 18 Oklahoma for the sole matchup headlining two ranked teams this week. Running back Justice Haynes had a productive game for Michigan, running the ball for 124 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
South Florida's Rise
South Florida, ranked for the first time in seven years, began their season with a bang, beating Duke 45-19 and Western Illinois 52-3. Quarterback Byrum Brown had a solid outing against Florida, completing 23 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown, and adding 66 yards on 17 carries.
The Bulls' impressive performance has them sitting at 3-0 against Top 25 teams and bidding to become the fifth team to open a season with three wins over ranked opponents.
Oregon's Climb
Oregon moved up to No. 4 in the Top 25 college football poll after a 63-3 win over Eastern Washington. Quarterback Bo Nix completed 19 of 24 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Troy Franklin caught eight passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Travis Dye also contributed with 129 yards and two touchdowns.

- Alabama had a dominant 73-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe. Quarterback Ty Simpson completed all 17 of his passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns.

The Top 3 teams in the Top 25 didn't budge after outscoring opponents by a combined 127-7. Ohio State remained No. 1, Penn State remained at No. 2, and LSU held firm at No. 3.
South Florida's impressive start has them sitting at No. 18 in the latest poll, while Oregon moved up to No. 4. The college football season is off to an exciting start, with many teams showcasing their potential and providing unpredictable results.
