Immigrant Solidarity Rally in Alexandria
On September 1, a rally is set to take place in Alexandria with a mission to bring the community together in solidarity with their immigrant neighbours. The event, scheduled from 10AM-11AM, is part of a nationwide day of protest.
The rally's objective is multifaceted. Primarily, it aims to protect immigrant family, friends, and neighbours in Alexandria. Additionally, it seeks to get ICE out of Alexandria, standing in support of those affected by the enforcement of immigration policies.
Congressman Don Beyer and community members directly impacted by ICE will speak at the rally, sharing their experiences and perspectives. The rally will be an opportunity for the community to come together, listen, and show their solidarity.
In conjunction with the rally, a donation drive will take place. Starting at 9:30AM, donations of material items and basic hygiene products will be accepted. The donation drive is for Chirilagua-Arlandria residents who are struggling due to loss of income caused by ICE.
Requested items include food staples such as uncooked red beans, white corn flour (Maseca), cooking oil, instant coffee, sugar, cereal, oatmeal, and instant ramen noodle soup. For hygiene, items like laundry detergent, soap, dish soap, toothpaste, paper towels, and toilet paper are needed.
After the rally, there will be "Action Stations" for rally-goers to sign up for concrete actions and follow-up from 11AM-12PM. These stations will provide opportunities for attendees to take further steps in supporting their immigrant neighbours.
The rally is a call to action for the Alexandria community to come together, support one another, and advocate for a more inclusive and compassionate society. Whether you can attend the rally or make a donation, every effort counts in standing up for our neighbours in need.
