Imran Khan's Sister Sustains Egg attack Outside Rawalpindi Prison

Aleema Khanum, the sister of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, was egged by two women outside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail on Friday. This incident occurred during a media interaction by Aleema Khanum, who is currently embroiled in the Toshakhana case.

The Toshakhana is a government-owned treasure house where gift items are given to government officials, including the Prime Minister, President, and ministers. In the Toshakhana case, Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were accused of unlawfully buying and selling gifts kept in the treasure house.

On Friday, the hearing for the Toshakhana case against Khan and his wife was adjourned. The next session is scheduled for Monday, September 8.

The incident involving Aleema Khanum was not the first time political figures have been targeted in such a manner. The PTI alleged that police had assisted the women in escaping by car and claimed they were planted for political motives. The PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique also condemned the act, calling it "shameful, vile and crude."

The Federal Minister for Development, Ahsan Iqbal, also condemned the incident, stating that politics should remain a contest of ideas, not of violence or hatred. Balochistan National Party-Mengal chief Akhtar Mengal echoed these sentiments, stating that targeting women is the lowest form of politics.

According to the Rawalpindi police statement, the egging occurred when Aleema Khanum did not answer questions raised by the two women. The information provided in this paragraph comes from PTI. They claim that the two women arrested are party supporters who had travelled to Rawalpindi to protest over unmet demands.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned for over two years on multiple charges. He was sentenced to three years in prison in August 2023 for the Toshakhana case. The details of the convictions and sentencing are still being contested in court.

During the media interactions outside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, Aleema Khanum was supported by her family and legal team. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact the ongoing Toshakhana case and the political landscape of Pakistan.
