In a creative projection, the future sports sedan from Infiniti is envisioned with an unexpected Skyline-inspired twist.

The automotive world is abuzz with news about the upcoming Infiniti Q50S, a vehicle that promises to be a spiritual successor to the much-loved G35.

Illustrator Nikita Chuyko, who drew heavily from the QX65 Monograph SUV concept, has imagined what the 2027 Q50S could look like. From the side, the car's profile has been streamlined with smoother lines, giving it a sleeker appearance. The front end, however, has been made much sharper and aggressive, reflecting a bold and assertive stance.

Chuyko's design also features a large grille, giving the Q50S a commanding presence. This design choice has raised questions about the future of oversized grilles, a trend that has been prevalent in recent automotive design.

Under the hood, the sedan is expected to feature a 400-horsepower (298 kW) twin-turbo V6 engine, providing a visceral driving experience. Reports suggest that stronger variants of the engine may also be available, catering to those seeking even more power.

In a move that could excite enthusiasts, the Q50S is rumoured to offer a manual transmission, a feature that has been missing in many modern sedans. Additionally, the inclusion of rear-wheel drive could be key to the success of the Q50 and other similar cars.

A Red Sport version of the Q50S is also said to be in development, further adding to the anticipation surrounding this vehicle.

However, not everyone is convinced about Infiniti's decision to focus on an enthusiast-focused build. Some dealers have expressed concerns that this approach may limit the appeal of the Q50 to a niche audience.

One such concern is the absence of all-wheel drive, a feature that Ed Lennon, president of Circle Infiniti in West Long Branch, N.J., believes could double their business if it were offered.

The Q50 is expected to be a relatively tight four-door, similar to the BMW 3-Series, making it a compact yet powerful offering in the luxury sedan segment.

In a surprising turn of events, Infiniti is reviving the Q50 as a rear-drive sedan with a Z-sourced twin-turbo V6. This decision comes as Infiniti shifts away from full EV plans in response to cooling demand.

As the release date for the Q50S approaches, the anticipation grows. The bigger changes in the rendering are found at the rear, where Chuyko added a set of rocket booster taillights borrowed from the limited production GT-R50 by Italdesign.

Meanwhile, the Kia Stinger, which was a success in terms of driver engagement, might see its luxury version, the Genesis G70, discontinued. This could leave a gap in the market for a compact, rear-drive luxury sedan that offers both power and handling.

With the 2027 Q50S, Infiniti seems to be aiming to fill that gap, promising a return to the roots of performance sedans while also pushing the boundaries of design and engineering. Only time will tell if the Q50S will be the game-changer the automotive world needs.
