"A Thrilling Turn of Events: A Bicycle Theft Ends on a Positive Note After the Bike is Returned in Pieces"

In a twist of unexpected events reminiscent of a terrifying film with a joyful denouement, a biker's encounter with a burglar ended favorably when his stolen cycle was returned, albeit in shambles.

Zsolt Lokodi, a British citizen who hails from Transylvania in Romania, has had an unexpected twist in his cycling journey. His trusted companion, a Surly Long Haul Trucker named Ulysses, was stolen from a hotel garage in Argentina.

Zsolt has been on an extensive cycling adventure, having previously ridden the length of the Rhine twice and made a couple of unfinished attempts on the UK End to End. He raised funds to see the world by bike after working as a carer in the UK for 20 years.

Ulysses, a bike that had been with Zsolt for over two years and clocked around 60,000km, was found three days later by local police, but it had been sawn into pieces. The frame was in numerous pieces, and key components like the chainset and Brooks saddle were missing.

In a rare horror story with a happy ending, Zsolt donated the salvageable parts, including the fork and wheels, to the local bike shop. He was also relieved to hear that Surly, a bike manufacturer in the US, agreed to send him a replacement bike, a Disc Trucker. Zsolt plans to name the new bike Penelope.

After returning to Chile following the recovery of his bike, Zsolt intends to continue his journey to India and Nepal. Bike shops are more prevalent and bikes are cheaper in Chile, making it a favourable destination for cyclists.
