In Political News, a tipsy motorist was removed from the roads following a citywide lockdown.

In an unusual incident on Thursday evening, a 54-year-old driver was arrested by the South-East Hesse Police Headquarters after driving against the direction of traffic on the A3 highway.

The incident occurred near Seligenstadt, and witnesses reported that the driver initially appeared to be traveling correctly towards Frankfurt. However, the driver subsequently turned around and continued driving towards Würzburg as a wrong-way driver.

The police were alerted around 00:45, and deployment forces rushed to the scene. The highway was closed at the Seligenstadt interchange, and traffic was brought to a stop at the Mainhausen rest area. The police monitored the highway from the Seligenstadt interchange towards Frankfurt and from the Hanau junction in the opposite direction.

During the pursuit, the driver ignored all stop signals, including flashing lights and sirens. However, a patrol car was able to safely stop the 3.5-ton Sprinter through a controlled braking maneuver by positioning their patrol car in front of the driver.

The driver was taken into police custody for sobering up after a blood test. A breath alcohol test showed a value of 1.68 per mille for the driver, indicating alcohol-induced impairment.

The driver was provisionally arrested on suspicion of endangering road traffic due to alcohol-induced impairment. No personal or material damages were reported during the incident.

Road users who were endangered by the wrong-way driver are asked to contact the South-East Hesse Police Highway Station. The contact information for the South-East Hesse Police Headquarters for further inquiries is provided.

The search results do not provide the name or identity of the person who was arrested. The highway was fully closed for approximately 15 minutes due to the operation.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and adhering to traffic rules, especially during nighttime hours. The police are urging all drivers to be vigilant and report any unusual or dangerous driving behaviours to the authorities.
