In Wales, triumphant victories in UCI Gravel World Series went to Noemie Thomson and Jenson Young
The picturesque Clocaenog Forest, to the west of the town of Ruthin, played host to the latest round of the UCI Gravel World Series. The event, held at Graean Cymru, saw elite cyclists from around the world compete in a challenging two-lap, 57.67km course that boasted over 2,000m of elevation gain.
In the elite women's category, it was Noemie Thomson (Das Hutchinson) who emerged victorious, crossing the finish line at the Brenig Reservoir in Llyn Brenig with a time of 3:45:34. Abi Smith (Picnic Post NL) and Moran Aguirre (PAS Racing) followed closely behind, finishing second and third respectively with times of 3:46:58 and 3:47:00.
The elite men's category was a fierce competition. Jenson Young (Ribble Outliers) claimed the top spot with a time of 3:11:07, just barely outpacing Ollie Boarer who finished third with a time of 3:12:03. Thomas Armstrong (Wheelbase-Cabtech-Castelli) put up a valiant effort, finishing second with a time of 3:12:03.
The UCI Gravel World Series round at Graean Cymru was one of the later events in the 2025 season. The UCI Gravel World Championships will take place on October 11 and 12, and the race served as an important qualifier for the event. Riders who finished in the top 25% in any of the 34 stand-alone UCI Gravel World Series races or were nominated by national federations will qualify for the championships.
Some of the top finishers at Graean Cymru, including Noemie Thomson, Jenson Young, Femke Markus (SD Worx-Protime), Jordan Habets (Metec-SolarWatt p/b Mantel), and others, will be participating in the remaining rounds of the UCI Gravel World Series 2025. These include Mammoth TUFF in the United States, 66 Degrés Sud - Pyrenées Catalanes Gravel Tour in France, Sea Otter Europe, and the UCI Gravel European Championships.
As the season comes to a close, the UCI Gravel World Series has proven to be an exciting and challenging event for all involved. The final rounds promise to be just as thrilling, as the world's best gravel cyclists compete for the ultimate title.
