Increased cannabis sales and decreasing prices
The Quebec Cannabis Society (SQDC) has announced its financial results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year, which ended on June 21, 2025. The results show a net global result of $27.7 million, a significant increase of $3.8 million compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
The SQDC's revenues increased by nearly 16% in the first quarter of 2025-2026 compared to the same period last year. Total sales of cannabis by the SQDC during this quarter were $181.0 million, an increase of $18.1 million compared to sales of $162.9 million in the first quarter of the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
The average price of cannabis decreased by 4% in the first quarter of 2025-2026, with the average selling price per gram, including all taxes, dropping from $5.84 to $5.61. This decrease in price, coupled with the increased sales volume, contributed to the SQDC's impressive financial results.
In-store sales accounted for $173.4 million, while online sales reached $7.6 million, with a slight decrease. The SQDC attributes this decrease in online sales to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as many customers may have preferred to shop in-store during this period.
The SQDC also reported a 15.6% increase in the volume of cannabis sold in the first quarter of 2025-2026 compared to the same period last year. The SQDC attributes this progress in sales and revenue to the increasing demand for concentrated products and the addition of eight new branches.
In autumn 2025, the SQDC supplied vaping products to the cities of Montreal, Quebec City, and Gatineau. The SQDC's management plans to "responsibly commercialize" vaping products by the end of autumn 2025.
The SQDC collected $68.0 million in sales and excise taxes in the first quarter of 2025-2026. Of this total, $19.2 million went to the federal government, while $48.8 million went to the Quebec government.
$76.5 million is allocated to the Fund to Combat Dependencies from the profits and taxes from the sale of cannabis and its derivatives. This fund aims to support various initiatives aimed at preventing and treating substance abuse in Quebec.
In conclusion, the SQDC's first quarter of 2025-2026 has been a successful one, with increased sales, revenue, and volume. The SQDC continues to adapt and grow, meeting the demands of its customers and contributing to the fight against substance abuse in Quebec.
