In a significant move to reduce long-term manufacturing costs and strengthen its presence in the European and North African markets, Trelleborg Medical Solutions has opened a new 43,055 square feet/4,000 square meters manufacturing space in Hal-Far, Malta.

The facility, which includes two cutting-edge clean rooms, will manufacture critical components for life-saving therapies, as stated by Linda Muroski, Business Area President for Trelleborg Medical Solutions. The Malta facility joins Trelleborg's existing biopharmaceutical-processing-focused manufacturing space in Northborough, Massachusetts, US.

Trelleborg Medical Solutions supplies original equipment manufacturers and biopharmaceutical processing companies with a broad range of products and capabilities for single- and multi-use biopharmaceutical applications. The company's portfolio includes highly reliable and proven silicone BioPharmaPro solutions, hose, custom silicone and rubber-moulded parts, O-Rings, seals, bearings, and composite products.

Daniel Diffenderfer, Business Unit President for Trelleborg Medical Solutions Europe, stated that the facility will partner with major medical device and biopharmaceutical processing customers to bring products to market faster with greater reliability. However, no new information regarding specific partnerships has been provided.

Trelleborg's decision to establish the new facility in Malta was influenced by the country's strategic location, skilled workforce, and culture of excellence. The company has a long-standing presence in Malta going back to 1961, and it continues to anchor itself as a pillar in Maltese manufacturing, developing skills and creating new jobs. The workforce is expected to increase by around 100 employees to meet the new business demands.

Recently, Trelleborg has expanded its capabilities through the acquisition of EirMed and Minnesota Rubber & Plastics. The company has also invested in a toolmaker apprenticeship programme to further develop its workforce.

The new facility will produce braided hose and silicone extrusions for biopharmaceutical applications. All Trelleborg's products can be customized into ready-to-use solutions, ensuring that the company continues to meet the unique needs of its customers.

With this expansion, Trelleborg reaffirms its commitment to delivering innovative solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry while reducing costs and increasing efficiency in its manufacturing processes.
