India's Asia Cup squad includes Gill and Bumrah, with Jaiswal excluded
The defending champions, India, have announced their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The 15-member squad, led by Suryakumar Yadav, includes some familiar faces and a few new additions.
Notably, Abhishek Sharma, known for his ability to bowl a little bit, has been included in the squad. This gives India an additional option in the bowling department. Shubman Gill, the opener, who hasn't played a T20 International since July last year, is also part of the squad. However, Gill has been busy with test series and did not get an opportunity to play T20s.
Jasprit Bumrah, despite concerns about his workload, has been included in the squad. Bumrah played in three of the five tests in England earlier this year, showcasing his resilience. India will be relying on him to deliver once again.
In the wicketkeeping department, India have two players, Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson. This ensures a strong backup for the team in case of any injuries.
The squad also includes Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and the promising Harshit Rana. Rinku Singh is another new face in the squad, adding depth to the batting lineup.
However, there are some notable absences. Yashasvi Jaiswal misses out on the Asia Cup squad. Ajit Agarkar, the selection committee, did not provide specific reasons for excluding certain players, but the absence of Jaiswal was highlighted. Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were among those who did not make the cut.
India will face arch-rivals Pakistan four days after their match against the United Arab Emirates. The team will play their first match in Group A against the hosts, United Arab Emirates, in Dubai.
This Asia Cup promises to be an exciting tournament, and with the inclusion of new talent and the experience of the veterans, India will aim to defend their title.
