India Announce 15-Member Squad for the 2025 Asia Cup
India has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in September 2025. The lead fast bowlers for the team are Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana, with Bumrah serving as the lead paceman.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav and Vice-Captain Shubman Gill will lead the team, accompanied by Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), and Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are set to be the lead fast bowlers for the tournament.
Rinku Singh, a new addition to the squad, joins the team for the 2025 Asia Cup. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel are among India's pack of all-rounders for the tournament. Kuldeep Yadav is another first-choice spinner India will head into the tournament with.
Varun Chakravarthy, who has been one of the standout bowlers for India since his comeback, will also be a part of the squad. He has taken 31 wickets at an average of 11.25 and an economy of 7.58.
There have been conflicting reports about the availability of Jasprit Bumrah due to workload management, but he has been declared fit for the tournament. Suryakumar Yadav, who earlier had doubts about his fitness, has been cleared and is ready to captain India in the tournament. Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain of the India team for the Asia Cup.
The first match of the Asia Cup 2025 will be between India and United Arab Emirates, scheduled for September 10. Tilak Varma, who scored back-to-back T20I centuries against South Africa in November, earns a spot in the squad. Abhishek Sharma is likely to accompany Sanju Samson at the top of the batting order.
Sanju Samson, who managed just 51 runs across the five T20Is against England, will be hoping to find form in the Asia Cup. Mohammed Shami, who made a comeback during the England T20Is after a long injury layoff, has been omitted from the India squad for the 2025 Asia Cup.
The complete India Asia Cup schedule can be found here. The squad looks balanced and promising, with a mix of experienced players and young talents. The team will be aiming to defend their title and bring home another victory.
