Individual assaults two law enforcement officers
A 41-year-old man from Reinhardshagen has been arrested and charged following a hit-and-run accident on state road 3232 near Veckerhagen on Thursday morning (29.8.).
The incident began when the man, who is the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident, allegedly caused the collision and then fled the scene on foot. The police were soon called to the accident site and began their search for the driver.
Later that day, the man was found at his address in Reinhardshagen. However, when the police attempted to take him for a blood test, he violently resisted. He reportedly threw objects and even kicked officers during the struggle.
The initial patrol that first discovered the man after the car accident and subsequent foot escape was joined by additional police patrols to support and ultimately succeed in arresting the man after he attacked officers. Due to the man's aggressive behaviour, additional police units were needed to subdue him.
The vehicle involved in the accident was severely damaged, with airbags deployed. The driver of the vehicle was not present at the accident scene.
The 41-year-old man admitted to being under the influence of a medication that makes driving unsafe. He now faces charges of resisting arrest, assault, hit-and-run, and driving under the influence.
The police are still investigating the incident and have not released any further details at this time.
