Individual met with fatal accident on Highway 99 in Merced County due to a hit-and-run collision
In the early hours of this morning, a tragic incident occurred on Highway 99 near Westside Boulevard in Fresno, California.
At around 12:25 a.m., emergency services were called to the scene following several 911 calls reporting a crash. Upon arrival, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers found a 34-year-old man lying in the middle of the highway.
The man had been involved in a hit-and-run crash. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle, which was travelling north, hit the pedestrian and did not stop after the incident.
CHP officers attempted life-saving measures on the man, but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are currently looking into whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident. They are also urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. It is still unclear why the victim was walking on the highway.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. They are working to identify the vehicle involved and locate the driver.
