Infiniti Plans to Revive Q50 Sedan Model in 2027, Offering Rear-Wheel Drive and Manual Shift Edition
In a move to expand its lineup with new crossovers and SUVs, luxury automaker Infiniti has brought back the Q50 sedan. This decision, according to Vinay Shahani, Nissan's U.S. sales and marketing chief, is a significant step in attracting younger buyers back to the brand.
Infiniti executives believe that having a sedan in their lineup is crucial for customer acquisition, especially for attracting younger buyers. The Q50 is aimed at appealing to older driving enthusiasts and performance-oriented younger customers. This model pays homage to past Infiniti models such as the G35, G20, I30, J30, FX, and Q45.
However, some dealers have expressed concerns about the lack of all-wheel drive in the Q50, particularly in the Northeast market.
In addition to the Q50, Infiniti is planning to launch the QX65 midsize two-row crossover in 2026. The QX65 is expected to live up to its potential as a true FX revival, avoiding the disappointment of the QX55. Alongside the QX65, Infiniti also plans to release off-road and performance variants of the QX80.
The name of the manager overseeing the reboot of the Infiniti Q50 and the further development of the model range in the coming years remains undisclosed.
Infiniti is celebrating its 35th anniversary by revisiting its iconic models, and the revival of the Q50 and upcoming QX65 are part of this celebration. The automaker is determined to offer genuine on-road performance capabilities, particularly in the QX65, which needs to be equipped with a real engine-transmission combo.
