Kirchhellen Embraces Green Renovations: A Path Towards Climate Neutrality
In the heart of the Ruhr area, the town of Kirchhellen is taking bold steps towards a greener future. With a goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2045, the town is receiving state support for a climate-appropriate transformation until 2029.
At the forefront of this transformation is the Sanierungsmanagement in Kirchhellen, a body offering free consulting services to help building owners optimally implement concrete renovations. Jens Watenphul, who manages renovation projects in Kirchhellen and leads the Klimaagentur Rhein-Ruhr, an agency focused on climate-related initiatives in the Rhine-Ruhr region, heads the Sanierungsmanagement.
During on-site consulting appointments, simulations are used to present the potential energy savings for individual buildings. Building owners can also receive support in preparing and planning renovation measures. The Sanierungsmanagement provides telephone consultations from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., under the number 02041/77394-15. On the first Thursday of each month, advice is offered at the district administration office at Kirchhellener Ring from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Annika Lippke from the Klimaagentur Rhein-Ruhr recently presented the free consulting services offered by the Sanierungsmanagement at a kick-off event. Many visitors showed interest in making their homes suitable for future decades. Some even discussed specific renovation projects during the event.
The buildings in Kirchhellen, primarily from the 1960s and 1970s, have good substance but poor insulation. However, with a high ownership rate and the potential to renovate a significant portion of its old buildings annually, Kirchhellen has the potential to make a substantial impact.
Local and nearby craft businesses have expressed their willingness to participate in Kirchhellen's energy renovation. The Sanierungsmanagement plans to host more information events on specific topics, such as the use of heat pumps and the operation of solar systems, in the coming months. The dates for these events will be announced in advance.
District Mayor Hendrik Dierichs encourages many building owners in Kirchhellen to start making their houses more energy-efficient. Technical Deputy Mayor Klaus MΓΌller also encourages private engagement in the climate-appropriate urban transformation. A high willingness to invest in energy-efficient renovations exists in Kirchhellen, but reliable framework conditions are necessary.
As Kirchhellen embarks on this journey towards a greener future, it serves as an inspiration for other towns and cities in the Ruhr area and beyond. With the support of the Sanierungsmanagement, building owners, and local businesses, Kirchhellen is well on its way to becoming a model for sustainable urban development.
