In the heart of the Prima Climate Ruhr Metropolis, the municipality of Kirchhellen is making significant strides towards a greener future.

More electricity is already being generated from renewable sources in Kirchhellen than is consumed, a testament to the village's commitment to sustainability. This achievement is welcomed by Technical Vice Mayor Klaus Müller, who has also welcomed a grant from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipalities, Construction and Digitalization.

The grant, totalling 420,000 euros, is allocated for renovation management in Kirchhellen. A municipal project team, led by Annika Lipke, is supported by the Climate Agency Rhine-Ruhr in this endeavour. Consultation on efficient renovation and application for funding is provided, with direct funding from the program not being planned, according to Katrin Knur from the municipal environmental planning.

The program aims to support companies and property owners in the energy-efficient and climate-appropriate renovation of buildings in Kirchhellen. It also seeks to expand district heating in the coming years, with Max Hetkämper-Flockert of the heat cooperative planning to further expand the district heating network in Kirchhellen.

An information event will take place on February 13 at the Vestische Gymnasium, where experts from the city administration and the economy will provide information about energy-efficient renovation, climate change adaptation, and funding opportunities.

Kirchhellen also plans to strengthen the village center, increase climate resilience, and improve the quality of stay. Annika Lipke, a member of the project team from Kirchhellen working with the Klimaagentur Rhein-Ruhr, is responsible for personal consultations on energy efficiency renovations and identifying potential measures for building thermal insulation.

A helpful tool for identifying potential needs for action in building thermal insulation, called Thermocard, will be available soon. Annika Lipke aims to inspire imitation with success stories and focuses on small steps in personal conversations.

Experimental and innovative energy quarters are being promoted in Kirchhellen. Connected households in the village save around 60,000 euros for heating oil through the heat connection.

For those interested in learning more or seeking consultation, appointment can be made with Annika Lipke by calling 02041/77394-15 or emailing primaklima.kirchhellenklimaagentur-rrde. The municipal project team can be reached via email at primaklimaunsere websitede.

The program for Kirchhellen will be available until the end of 2029, providing ample time for the village to continue its journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.
