Kirchhellen Embraces Climate-Friendly Renovation

The town of Kirchhellen, one of eight municipalities in the Ruhr area being supported by the state in its climate-appropriate transformation until 2029, is making strides in renovating its old buildings. The district, known for its high ownership rate, has the potential to renovate 5% of its old buildings annually, according to Jens Watenphul, who runs the Sanierungsmanagement in Kirchhellen.

The Sanierungsmanagement, along with other local organisations, is offering various resources to facilitate this transformation. On the first Thursday of each month, advice is available at the district administration office at Kirchhellener Ring from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Additionally, a telephone initial consultation can be scheduled from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., under the number 02041/77394-15.

During on-site consulting appointments, potential energy savings for individual buildings are presented using simulations. The optimal renovation work is calculated based on the planned investment volume, and the Sanierungsmanagement offers free consulting on savings potential, funding programs, financing options, and process organization for renovations.

In the coming months, information events on specific topics such as the use of heat pumps and the operation of solar systems are planned. These events will feature experts from BRÖTJE, energy consultants and financing professionals from Raiffeisen, and representatives from iKratos Solar- und Energietechnik GmbH. The dates for these events will be announced in advance.

Further craft businesses from Kirchhellen and the surrounding area have expressed their willingness to participate in the energetic renovation of the district. Many visitors at the "Market of Possibilities," a recent event held at the Vestische Gymnasium's auditorium, showed interest in heat pumps, window renovation, heating installation, green roofs, and surface unsealing for their homes.

Technical Deputy Mayor Klaus Müller encourages private engagement in the climate-appropriate urban transformation, and District Mayor Hendrik Dierichs echoes this sentiment, encouraging many building owners to start energetically renovating their houses. Annika Lippke from the Klimaagentur Rhein-Ruhr also presented free consulting offers for energetic renovation at the event.

The buildings from the 1960s and 1970s in Kirchhellen have good substance but poor insulation. The goal for Kirchhellen is to become climate-neutral by 2045 at the latest. With the support of the community and local businesses, Kirchhellen is well on its way to achieving this goal.
