Four Players Achieve Course Record at TPC Southwind

The TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee, has seen some exceptional golfing performances over the years, with a score of 61 standing out as the course record. This prestigious mark has been achieved by four players: Jay Delsing, Bob Estes, Tom Lewis, and most recently, Justin Rose.

In 1993, Delsing set the record with a blemish-free round of 10 birdies in the final round of the St. Jude Classic. Bob Estes matched the record in the first round of 2001, putting him three strokes clear at the top. His impressive performance propelled him towards winning the tournament by a single stroke, with a total of 17 under par.

Tom Lewis joined the exclusive 61 club in the third round of both 2020 and 2023 at TPC Southwind. His 2020 round helped him finish in a tie for 3rd place, while his 2023 round moved him up the leaderboard.

Justin Rose's 61 in the third round of the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship was close to being a sub-60 round. Carded on Moving Day, this bogey-free round catapulted him up the leaderboard. However, Rose finished the tournament in a share of second spot alongside Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson, with a total of 10-under.

Braden Thornberry, a promising young golfer who now plays on the PGA Tour, carded a nine-under 61 during the final round of the Memphis Golf Association Junior Invitational in 2012. Playing the course 1,000 yards shorter than the pros do, Thornberry's round handed him an 18-shot victory at the age of 15.

The TPC Southwind course, which measures between 7,200 and 7,300 yards and has a par of 70, is one of the TPC courses in the United States where the FedEx St. Jude Championship is held. This regular stop on the PGA Tour calendar attracts some of the best golfers in the world, who aim to etch their names in the course's history by achieving the elusive 61 score.
