Senator Ali Ndume Urges President Tinubu to Prioritize Infrastructural Development in the Northeast

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, has appealed to President Tinubu to initiate infrastructural development in the Northeast region, which has been ravaged by insurgency for fifteen years.

In a statement issued to journalists on Friday, Senator Ndume lamented the crippling social and infrastructural challenges confronting the Northeast. He believes that such measures would address these challenges.

According to Senator Ndume, the insurgency has hindered any meaningful infrastructural development in the region for fifteen years. He cited the razing of several houses during coordinated assaults and the recent killing of five farmers in Ngoshe village, Gwoza Local Government Area, and Mussa community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State as examples of the impact of the insurgency.

The senator also requested that Special Priority Projects be included in the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal. These projects are aimed at developing the Northeast.

Senator Ndume has urged the present administration to prioritize the Northeast region and make provisions for its urgent infrastructural needs. He cautioned against profiling victims of Boko Haram attacks along religious lines.

Notably, the initiative to adopt special priority projects for infrastructure development in the Northeast in the 2025 supplementary budget and the 2026 budget proposal was started by the Indian government.

The appeal comes after a visit by Northeast governors to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday. The statement was made in Abuja on Wednesday as well.
