Intense Assaults Across Ukraine - Government Building in Kiev Goes Up in Flames
In a series of escalating events, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy air strikes by Russian military forces, causing widespread destruction and injury across several cities. The affected cities include Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Saporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine.
Russia's air strikes have left dozens of people injured in Kyiv, with at least two fatalities and 11 injuries, including a one-year-old child, reported. Residential buildings in the capital city have been damaged, and a fire has broken out in the main government building. In Kryvyi Rih, the city centre was targeted, causing unspecified damage. At least 15 people were injured in Saporizhzhia alone.
In response to these air strikes near the border, Poland has deployed military aircraft to the border region. The operational command of the Polish armed forces made this statement overnight. Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, reported the start of a preventive air force operation due to the threat from Russian drones operating near the Polish border over Ukraine.
Explosions were also reported in Odessa, where drones targeted residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the staff was evacuated to safety. However, a large plume of smoke was seen at the oil refinery after the attack, and one of the processing units caught fire but was quickly extinguished.
The Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine was not left unaffected, with one death and several injuries, including a nine-year-old child, reported.
