On August 9, 2025, a field fire broke out near Nienhagen and Papenhorst, Germany. The incident, which involved a burning square bale press, attracted the attention of local fire departments from Celle city and Samtgemeinde Flotwedel, including Adelheidsdorf, Nienhagen, Wathlingen, Großmoor, Altencelle, Westercelle, Bröckel, Eicklingen, and the command vehicle from Langlingen.

In total, over 100 deployment forces from these nine local fire departments were involved in the operation to combat the fire. To manage the situation effectively, three deployment sections were formed. A nearly six-meter-wide firebreak was created around the fire area to contain it.

Over 50 burning square bales were pulled apart with agricultural equipment, and a cultivator was used to work under the pulled-apart bales. Due to high temperatures and occasional wind gusts, the incident commander escalated the alarm level.

The Bröckel local fire department's drone, equipped with a thermal imaging camera, was used to monitor the extinguishing success and detect and extinguish spot fires. Thanks are due to farmers, the local REWE market, and all involved deployment forces for their swift action in bringing the fire under control.

The fire department, however, cannot make any statements regarding the specific cause of the fire or the amount of damage caused. After approximately two hours of extinguishing measures, the fire was reported to be out.
