Interactive platform dedicated to family health matters
In the heart of Bamberg, the Ost Youth Center played host to a special event as part of the meeteinander project's leisure festival. The occasion was the MiMi Health Day, an initiative aimed at promoting health literacy among migrants.
The Intercultural Health Project MiMi-Bayern, with its tagline "With Migrants for Migrants", was the main attraction. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about family health and access valuable resources provided by the project.
MiMi-Bayern, a project of the Ethno-Medical Center e.V., is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care, and Prevention, and supported by MSD Sharp & Dohme GmbH. It has been a staple in Bamberg for 13 years, with the coordination office at the Bamberg City Office for Inclusion training numerous Intercultural MiMi Mediators. These mediators, hailing from various backgrounds, pass on their knowledge in their native language to fellow countrymen in Bamberg, covering 20 different topics.
On this day, Yvonne Rüttger, the site coordinator of the project, was joined by Marina Glasunova, Anca Marza, Tatjana Schell, Sarah Scheller, and others. They were on hand to answer questions, provide information, and offer practical tips for family life.
The Bamberg Health Department, a long-standing cooperation partner of the MiMi project, was also present. They offered low-threshold access to professional advice, particularly in the areas of mental health for children and adolescents.
In addition to health-related discussions, the day was filled with engaging activities. A sugar exhibition, a mega floor newspaper with a hepatitis C quiz, and a demonstration area for giant toothbrushing were just a few of the highlights.
For those seeking more information or support, the "Klarwerk" program offers free online parent evenings on topics such as puberty, adolescent fears, self-harm, and drug prevention. The "Klarwerk - wenn alles scheiße ist" program also provides important information and support for psychological stress.
If necessary, interpreters can cover other languages for MiMi-Info Events, ensuring that everyone can benefit from the resources and information provided. For more details about MiMi-Bayern, contact Yvonne Rüttger at yvonne.ruettger@ourwebsite or 0951/87-1446, or visit www.ourwebsite/mimi. For comprehensive, free, and confidential support for all questions related to pregnancy, childbirth, family planning, and life with a child, the state-recognized counseling center for pregnancy questions at the Bamberg District Office is available.
The MiMi Health Day was a testament to Bamberg's commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all its residents. With events like these, the city continues to empower migrants and ensure they have access to the resources they need to lead healthy, happy lives.
