Interested discourse at the Greifswald Future Council - inputs and opinions encouraged
Greifswald, a city in the north of Germany, is gearing up for an exciting new initiative called "My Greifswald 2030." The project, which aims to foster inclusive and balanced discussions about the city's future urban development, has received an overwhelming response from its residents.
The city administration recently sent invitations to 2,000 individuals, inviting them to be a part of the future council. The response has been remarkable, with over 80 individuals responding within just two weeks. Jonas Dietrich, the project leader, expressed his delight with the positive response and emphasized the importance of more people participating to ensure effective citizen participation.
The future council will consist of 60 randomly selected members, ensuring a balanced composition in terms of age, gender, and place of residence within the districts of Ladebow, Ostseeviertel, and Groß Schönwalde. The specific identities or detailed profiles of the selected members are not yet available. However, it is clear that there is high interest in the city center, suburbs, and smaller districts.
The University of Greifswald is accompanying the process scientifically, ensuring that the discussions are informed and well-structured. The topics for discussion will be set by the members themselves, making the council a truly representative body of Greifswald's citizens.
The future council will meet several times until 2028, with the results of their discussions to be presented to the city council for further discussion. It is important to note that the discussions and results are separate from the expressed interest of individuals who could not participate or were not selected.
The project is funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation, the federal program "Democracy Lives!", and the Vorpommern Fund. Jonas Dietrich expressed his gratitude for the support, stating that it will help ensure the success of the initiative.
Despite the enthusiasm, it is crucial that more responses are received from Ladebow, the Ostseeviertel, and Groß Schönwalde. Unfortunately, others who inquired about participating despite not being selected will not be able to do so.
In conclusion, "My Greifswald 2030" is an exciting opportunity for the city's residents to have their voices heard and contribute to the shaping of Greifswald's future. The deadline for responses is September 14, 2025. Let's make sure that everyone who wants to be a part of this important process has their say.
