Intoxicated Male Pedaling Bicycle
In an incident that occurred near the stadium in Bad Salzungen on Sunday at 2:25 AM, a 52-year-old cyclist was stopped for a routine traffic check. The cyclist was found to have an alcohol level of 1.64 per mille, prompting the police to order a blood test.
Upon being taken to a local hospital for the blood test, the cyclist resisted the ordered test. However, the results confirmed the initial reading of 1.64 per mille, leading to the initiation of investigations for driving under the influence.
The cyclist was also charged with obstruction of justice in relation to his resistance to the blood test. The passenger on the cyclist's bike was not charged in the incident.
The cyclist's bike was impounded as evidence, and his license has been temporarily suspended pending the outcome of the investigations. The cyclist's identity has not been publicly disclosed at this time.
The police are reminding the public of the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence. They emphasise the importance of responsible behaviour when using any mode of transportation, especially when alcohol is involved.
Investigations are also ongoing to determine if there were any attempts at obstruction of justice in relation to the cyclist's resistance to the blood test. The cyclist's court date has been scheduled for next month.
The public is encouraged to prioritise safety and comply with traffic regulations to avoid similar incidents in the future. The police will continue to enforce these regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
