Introducing Five Fresh Website Members and the Established Philippines National Committee in the Asian Region, as of September 3rd, 2025

New Member Joins Asia Regional Members' Committee: The Philippines

The Asia Regional Members' Committee (ARMC) has welcomed a new member, the National Committee of the Philippines. This development strengthens Asia's capacity to address urgent conservation challenges while advancing sustainable development pathways.

The formation of the Philippines National Committee marks the country as the 11th National Committee in Asia. Ms. Arlie Jo B. Endonila from Haribon Foundation has been appointed as the chairwoman of this new committee.

The ARMC, composed of Chairs (or designated Vice-Chairs) of all National Committees, one elected representative per country where no National Committee exists, and Regional Councillors and Commissions invited as non-voting members, plays an important role in uniting Members at the country level and ensuring that local and national priorities inform the committee's regional and global work.

Dr Dindo Campilan, Regional Director for Asia and Hub Director for Oceania, expressed delight at the inclusion of the new Members from Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines. He emphasized that National Committees are at the heart of the Union, giving Members a stronger collective voice and fostering collaboration.

The Philippines' membership in the ARMC is a testament to the country's commitment to conservation and sustainable development. The Seub Nakhasathien Foundation from Thailand, a leading Thai environmental NGO dedicated to protecting large forest complexes, conserving biodiversity, and safeguarding wildlife habitats, shares similar values.

Indigenous Peoples Rights International from the Philippines, a global nonprofit organization committed to protecting Indigenous Peoples' rights, preventing violence and criminalization, ensuring community safety, and amplifying advocacy for justice worldwide, also brings invaluable knowledge and passion to the ARMC community.

The Forests and Livelihoods Organization from Cambodia, an NGO that works with government, civil society, and international partners to empower local communities and ethnic minorities in northeastern Cambodia, and the Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute, a government agency that manages national arboreta classified by climate and vegetation zones, conserves tree genetic resources, and promotes the garden industry and culture, round out the list of new Members.

The Suncheon City in the Republic of Korea has already established itself as a global-scale ecological city through the creation of the Suncheonman National Garden and conservation of the Suncheonman Wetland. The ARMC, under the leadership of its current chairman, Mr Malik Shahbaz Tahir, looks forward to working with the new Members to further this mission.
