Investigating Online Platform for Suspected Child Pornography Materials
In the digital world, a new chat platform, Bounty.chat, has emerged, promising themed chat rooms and a way to connect with people nearby, much like its predecessor Coco. However, this new platform is now under scrutiny from France's broadcasting regulator, Arcom, due to concerns about the dissemination of harmful content, particularly paedophile content, and acts relating to the solicitation of minors online.
Bounty.chat, an alternative to the French-language online chat platform Coco, has been heavily inspired by its predecessor but has also added new features. The founder and manager of Bounty.chat remain unidentified in the available search results, and there is no information regarding any legal proceedings against them.
The Coco website, which was shut down in June 2024, has been associated with numerous sex crimes, including paedophilia, rape, and murder, as claimed by French authorities. Notorious sex criminal Dominique Pelicot, for instance, allegedly used the Coco website to recruit dozens of strangers to rape his heavily-sedated wife between 2011 and 2020. Isaac Steidl, the founder and manager of the Coco website, was indicted and placed under judicial supervision last January.
Arcom has requested an explanation from Bounty.chat and is studying its response. The platform, however, insists that it complies with French law and that moderation and security are a priority for them. Arcom is in contact with France's Anti-Cybercrime Office (OFAC) to decide on the next course of action.
Bounty.chat states that it is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable platform for its users. They emphasise the measures they have in place to prevent any inappropriate content or behaviour, including advanced moderation tools and a strict code of conduct.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether Bounty.chat will face the same fate as its predecessor. Users and authorities alike are keeping a close eye on the platform, hoping for a safer digital environment.
