Investigation findings of the Hanover Police Inspection following the Hanover 96 versus 1. FC Magdeburg game held on 23rd August, 2025 in Hannover.

In the heart of Germany, the city of Hannover played host to a highly-anticipated football match between 1. FC Magdeburg and Hannover 96. The day saw a significant presence of the Federal Police Inspectorate Hannover, who ensured a smooth and secure event.

Approximately 5,000 fans of 1. FC Magdeburg traveled to the match, while around 8,000 Hannover 96 supporters made their way by train. The operation, which focused on travel routes and main train stations in Braunschweig, Hannover, and Hannover Linden/Fischerhof, was carried out with reinforcements from Hannover, Ratzeburg, Uelzen, Hünfeld, Punsere Plattform, and the police dogs from Hannover.

The arrival phase proceeded without incident in the area of responsibility of the Federal Police. Many of the Magdeburg fans gathered on the Ernst-August-Platz and walked to the Heinz von Heiden Arena under police escort. A smaller group traveled via the Hannover Linden/Fischerhof station to the central station, also under police supervision.

Through the consistent separation of fan scenes, the train-side arrival and departure were calm. A Federal Police helicopter from the Federal Police Air Support Unit Gifhorn was also involved, monitoring the situation from above.

The return journey also proceeded without incident in the area of responsibility of the Federal Police Inspectorate Hannover. Around 350 Magdeburg fans walked back to Hannover Central Station under police escort, while approximately 750 fans of 1. FC Magdeburg reached Hannover via various scheduled train connections.

Marco von Rautenberg-Garczynski, deputy inspector of the Federal Police Inspectorate Hannover and police chief, commended the close coordination with security partners before the match. "Even before the match, we had close coordination with our security partners," he said.

Detlef Lenger, spokesperson for the Federal Police Inspectorate Hannover, was the contact person for inquiries, reachable at 0162 489 454 2 or [email protected]. For further inquiries, RD could also be contacted.
