New Fire Station 210 to Enhance Safety and Sustainability in Duisburg

In the heart of Duisburg, a new fire station is being built under the experienced leadership of Duisburg Infrastructure Society mbH (dig). The new Fire Station 210, located at Emmericher Straße 121-133 in Duisburg-Meiderich, is a modern and functional site that aims to strengthen fire and disaster protection in the districts of Ruhrort, Laar, Beeck, Beeckerwerth, Meiderich, and Bruckhausen.

Mayor Sören Link expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the voluntary firefighters, stating that the new equipment house honours their tireless efforts in ensuring the safety of the city's citizens day and night. Björn Metzler, head of the real estate department of the Economic Operations of Duisburg, added that the new fire station 210 will meet the high demands of daily fire service.

The new building will replace the existing fire stations 201 on Apostelstraße in Laar and 202 on Augustastraße in Meiderich, which no longer meet current technical, functional, and safety requirements. The new fire station 210 will consist of a vehicle hall with six parking spaces and an integrated washing hall, a two-story social and administrative building, and an ancillary building for emergency power generators and hazardous material storage.

Lars Nennhaus, Managing Director of Duisburger Infrastrukturgesellschaft mbH, highlighted that the planning of the new fire station 210 combines functionality, sustainability, and future viability. The building will feature a steel-reinforced concrete frame construction, sandwich facades, and masonry with steel-reinforced concrete ceilings for robust, long-lasting building quality.

To promote biodiversity and improve the microclimate, the new building will have an extensively greened flat roof, diverse plantings, and a noise protection wall with bamboo slats. The new fire station 210 will also boast environmentally friendly heat supply systems, including a photovoltaic system, an air-water heat pump, floor heating in the social area, and ceiling radiant panels in the vehicle hall.

The new fire station 210 will also increase the attractiveness of volunteer work with modern facilities, including modern changing rooms, training and common rooms, a dedicated area for the youth fire brigade, and a fitness room. Barrier-free access, an elevator, and a special parking space ensure that all areas in the new fire station 210 are accessible without obstacles.

The total costs of the project are approximately 8.75 million euros. WBD, the city, and dig are investing in safety, rapid assistance, and qualified training in the new fire station 210, thereby enhancing operational readiness, volunteer work, and the protection of citizens in Duisburger Norden. Completion of the project is scheduled for October 2026.

With the new fire station 210, Duisburg continues to invest in the safety and well-being of its citizens, ensuring rapid and effective fire protection services for years to come.
