Investor Secures Purchase of High-Value McLaren Collection Valued in the Tens of Millions
McLaren F1, Once Owned by Oracle Founder Larry Ellison, Goes Up for Sale
The iconic McLaren F1, a car with a rich history and impressive specifications, is currently up for sale. The vehicle, which spent more than a decade in the hands of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, has been listed by RM Sotheby's through their Sealed auction program.
This Magnesium Silver McLaren F1, originally delivered to Ellison in August 1997, boasts an odometer reading under 6,500 miles (10,460 km). The car was sent to McLaren Philadelphia in October 2023 for a transmission rebuild, new tires, new spark plugs, and minor repairs to the gold foil in the engine bay. Furthermore, it has undergone upgrades such as new air conditioning, sports exhaust, and fresh tires.
Unlike most other F1s, this one features aluminum tanks instead of fuel bladders. The car's windshield was recently replaced with an original one from McLaren Special Operations. Despite changes in ownership and upgrades, the McLaren F1 retains a pristine exterior and interior with all original materials and parts.
This specific McLaren F1 is one of only seven officially imported to the United States. It was serviced and upgraded around 2012 at McLaren in the UK, including new radiators, upgraded air conditioning, special aluminum fuel tanks, sports exhaust, and retaining original owner's manuals, luggage set, travel suitcase, car cover, service modem/laptop, and torque wrench.
The McLaren F1, currently owned by a collector in the Bay Area, was previously owned by Larry Ellison and has been through fewer than 6,500 miles (10,460 km) since its delivery in 1997. The car, which bears the California license plate "ORACLE8," was auctioned by RM Sotheby's, with an estimated value over $23 million USD.
Tom Hartley Jnr has finalized the sale of Mansour Ojjeh's 20-car McLaren collection, which went to a single, deep-pocketed, and secretive buyer. The collection, believed to have been sold for a figure in the tens of millions, included the last McLaren F1 ever built, multiple unicorn-grade Sennas, a P1 GTR, a Speedtail, and other automotive treasures.
