US President Donald Trump is set to visit the UK from 17-19th September for a state visit, marking his second official state visit to the country. The visit, which will see the President meet with King Charles at Windsor Castle, is expected to be a significant opportunity to strengthen UK-US ties, with a focus on technology, artificial intelligence, and fresh investment opportunities.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer extended the invitation to Trump earlier this year during a trade meeting. However, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has pledged to boycott the event in protest of Trump's foreign policy stance.

The tech giants Jensen Huang (CEO of Nvidia), Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI), Larry Fink (Chairman and CEO of BlackRock), Stephen Schwarzman (CEO of Blackstone Group), and Tim Cook (CEO of Apple) are rumoured to attend the visit. The presence of these tech leaders suggests a strong emphasis on the tech sector during the visit.

The visit comes amidst ongoing disputes over tariffs, steel, and drug prices. However, closer ties on nuclear energy are anticipated, as the UK seeks to secure its energy future.

Protests organised by the Stop Trump coalition are planned in London during Trump's visit, reflecting the divided opinions about the President's visit.

Meanwhile, in the UK's political landscape, Liz Kendall has succeeded Peter Kyle as the new Tech Secretary. The change in leadership could potentially influence the UK's approach to tech-related discussions during Trump's visit.

In the Labour party, speculation about possible by-elections is facilitating a potential return to Parliament for Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, who is reportedly considering a leadership bid against Starmer. However, no available information indicates that Keir Starmer sent Andy Burnham anywhere.

The First Lady Melania Trump will accompany President Trump on the visit, adding a personal touch to the state visit. The visit promises to be a significant event in the UK's political calendar, with a focus on technology and strengthening UK-US ties.
