Luxury Financing Surged for Quantum Technology Company IQM - IQM, a quantum startup, successfully secures substantial financial backing

In a significant development for the quantum technologies sector, German-Finnish startup IQM has raised a funding round of $320 million (around €275 million). This investment, the largest Series B funding round ever conducted in the field of quantum technologies in Europe and outside the USA, was led by US investor Ten Eleven Ventures, which specializes in cybersecurity, and Finnish venture capital firm Tesi.

Founded in 2018 by scientists from Finland and Germany, including Jan Goetz and Mikko Möttönen, IQM has grown into a provider of complete quantum computers. The startup, based in Espoo (Finland), Munich, Paris, Madrid, Singapore, and Palo Alto, specializes in the development and construction of superconducting quantum computers.

Quantum computers, unlike traditional computers, work differently, using qubits. They are particularly well-suited to solving certain problems that are extremely difficult or nearly impossible for classical computers. These include data encryption, where quantum computers can calculate large numbers more efficiently than classical algorithms. Quantum computers also excel at simulating complex chemical systems.

IQM's most notable project is the construction of the European quantum computer Euro-Q-Exa at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Munich. The fresh risk capital brings the total funding to $600 million and will be used to accelerate IQM's growth in the USA and other global markets.

A Series B funding round is the second major investment round for a startup, used to drive expansion. With this funding, IQM is considered one of the leading players in Europe in the field of quantum technologies. The risky capital allocation of approximately 600 million euros for the quantum startup IQM is a testament to the potential of quantum technologies and IQM's position as a frontrunner in this field.

This investment in IQM is a significant step forward for the quantum technologies sector, signalling increasing interest and investment in this promising area. As IQM continues to develop and expand, it is poised to make significant contributions to the field and drive the development of quantum technologies further.
