Israel demolishes another multi-story edifice in Gaza Metropolis, making it the third such destruction in the past three days amid escalating conflict with Hamas.
The past week has seen a series of escalating conflicts in various regions, with Gaza being a particular hotspot.
Pope Leo XIV welcomed the Israeli president at the Vatican and called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid. His plea comes amidst ongoing violence in the region.
Yesterday, the Israeli Army destroyed the Susi Tower and the Mushtaha Tower in the city of Gaza. The Army alleges that these buildings were used by Hamas for observation points and other functions. The armed branch of Hamas and its ally, the Islamic Jihad, have claimed responsibility for several attacks, including the launch of projectiles towards Israeli territory.
Two projectiles were identified launched from the center of Gaza towards Israeli territory. One of these projectiles was intercepted and the other fell in a deserted area. Netivot, a city of around 50,000 people located about 10 kilometers from the Palestinian territory, was threatened by projectiles fired from the Gaza Strip for the first time in several months.
Hamas is also accused of placing "numerous explosives" in the Al-Jalaa Tower with the intention of damaging troops near the bombed building. The Israeli Air Force shot down two of the intercepted drones before they entered its airspace, while the fate of the third remains unknown.
Elsewhere, the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who control large swathes of territory, have promised to avenge the assassination of their prime minister in an Israeli airstrike that occurred in August. They have also been linked to the launch of drones towards Israel.
Meanwhile, Russia has escalated its attacks on Ukraine with a record number of drones, reaching the government headquarters in Kiev for the first time. This escalation has resulted in increased tensions between the two countries.
Tragically, an earthquake in Afghanistan resulted in a death toll of 1,400, and injured continue to arrive at hospitals. Our thoughts are with those affected by this disaster.
Despite the ongoing conflicts, it is crucial to remember the human toll. At least 21,000 children have been disabled in Gaza due to the war. It is hoped that the calls for a ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid will bring some relief to those suffering in these troubled times.
