Jets' Week 1 setback against the Steelers: Who's performing well, who's struggling?

In a nail-biting game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the New York Jets fell short against the Pittsburgh Steelers, losing 34-32. One of the weakest areas for the Jets was their secondary, as they allowed more separation than the league average to Pittsburgh's receivers.

According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Ben Skowronek had an average separation of 8.47 yards, Jonnu Smith 4.34 yards, and DK Metcalf 3.2 yards against the Jets' secondary. The team also allowed four touchdown passes to Aaron Rodgers in the game.

Head coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly in zone coverage. He praised Brandon Stephens for his performance in man coverage but noted that he needs to work on locating and finishing on the ball. Stephens struggled to keep track of Pittsburgh's receivers in the game, and Aaron Cisco and Tony Adams also struggled in the Jets' secondary.

The Jets' secondary was identified as one of the largest uncertainties heading into the season, and the performance against the Steelers did little to alleviate those concerns. Glenn took over as head coach of the Jets following the departure of the previous coach, whose name is not currently available in the search results.

On the other side of the field, Aaron Rodgers, who played for the Steelers previously, completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns against the Jets. Justin Fields, the Jets' quarterback, had a solid debut, completing 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown, including a 33-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson. Fields also scored two rushing touchdowns in his debut.

Despite the loss, the Jets showed some promising signs, particularly in Fields' debut. The deep ball looked solid for Fields, and the team scored 30 or more points twice last season, both times scoring 32 points. The Jets will look to build on these positives as they continue their season.
