Fontainebleau Casino in Las Vegas Faces Layoffs and Restaurant Closures

In the heart of Las Vegas, the Fontainebleau casino has been hit by a wave of layoffs and restaurant closures, leaving many employees feeling uncertain about their future.

Reports first surfaced last week about the imminent layoffs at the Fontainebleau casino, with Las Vegas Locally confirming the news on November 12. However, the casino has yet to disclose the exact number of employees affected by the layoffs.

The closures have not been limited to the casino floor. Several restaurants within the Fontainebleau have shut their doors, resulting in layoffs of upper management and essential staff, including HR personnel. The casino has also not provided details about its future plans following these changes.

The Fontainebleau casino, which has been open for approximately one year on the Las Vegas Strip, has been silent on the reasons for these moves. The lack of transparency has left many employees feeling blindsided, with some expressing their concern about the lack of adherence to seniority and the limited severance packages offered.

The severance packages for the laid-off employees are reportedly limited to two weeks' pay, regardless of their role or tenure at the casino. Furthermore, the casino has not provided any support or guidance to the laid-off employees.

The unionization of the Fontainebleau's employees, under the Culinary Workers Union, may provide some measure of security during these challenging times. The union, which represents roughly 60,000 members on the Strip, offers resources aimed at job security and benefits, even as visitation and occupancy rates have declined.

Labor negotiations involving the Culinary Union are ongoing, with the aim of managing these operational challenges. The downturn in Las Vegas tourism and casino revenue trends in summer 2025 appear to be a significant factor in the Fontainebleau's decision to make these changes.

Despite the uncertain times, the Fontainebleau casino has yet to release a statement regarding the reasons for the layoffs and restaurant closures.
