Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz paid a surprise visit to Liberty County High School in Hinesville, Georgia, where they dropped in on a high school marching band's practice session.

The high school students gasped and cheered upon the arrival of Harris and Walz. The Vice President, who has a rich musical background, took the opportunity to share her passion for music with the young musicians.

Harris grew up with a preference for soulful artists such as Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, as her mother was obsessed with them. As a youth, she played the French horn, percussion, xylophone, vibraphone, and kettle drums. Her personal favorite musician before becoming Vice President was Prince, and she almost knows every song by the iconic artist by heart.

Harris also expressed her love for funk-soul bassist Bootsy Collins, R&B artists Brandy and Monica, rappers Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Cardi B. Jazz musicians such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane hold a special place in her heart, as her father had a love for them.

During the visit, Harris revealed her shopping bag contents, which included three vinyl albums. The first album was 'Let My Children Hear Music' by Charles Mingus, the second was 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' by Roy Ayers, and the third was selections from Porgy and Bess sung by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

Walz, a former high school teacher and sports coach, instinctively started clapping along with the band. He spoke about the importance of being part of something bigger than the individual, emphasizing the unity and camaraderie that music brings.

Harris told the students she was in a band when she was their age and that practice makes for beautiful music, which is symbolic for everything they will do in their lives. The bandleader described Harris as "a woman of many talents".

Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Beyoncé have also appeared on special playlists curated by Harris. Harris's personal favorite musician before becoming Vice President was Prince, and she continues to cherish his music. The visit was a memorable moment for the students, who were inspired by Harris's passion for music and her message of hard work and perseverance.
