Kenya's Digital Economy Acceleration Project Progress Evaluation by ICT Authority and the World Bank

The Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP) is spearheading the expansion of high-speed internet across Kenya, a significant step towards the nation's progress as a digitally empowered economy. This ambitious project, a partnership between the ICT Authority and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), is designed to position Kenya as a leader in the regional digital economy.

The KDEAP aims to improve the quality and delivery of education in Kenya, equipping citizens with digital skills essential for the modern world. It also targets the enhancement of selected government services, ensuring seamless and efficient service delivery.

In a recent meeting, Cabinet Secretary Hon. William Kabogo, Principal Secretaries Eng. John Tanui (ICT and Digital Economy) and Mr. Stephen Isaboke (Broadcasting and Telecommunications), ICT Authority Acting CEO Ms. Zilpher Owiti OGW, and senior World Bank officials discussed the progress of KDEAP. The World Bank, a key supporter of KDEAP, recognises it as one of Kenya's flagship initiatives for digital transformation.

The private sector is also acknowledged as playing a crucial role in extending connectivity to communities and end users in Kenya. The fast-tracked broadband rollout is being achieved by leveraging existing infrastructure to ensure digital access for every citizen.

Dr. Michel Rogy, Regional Practice Director for Digital at the World Bank, led a high-level delegation to review the progress of KDEAP. The KDEAP is not just about digital connectivity; it's about fuelling economic growth in Kenya. Government representatives have committed to connecting all public institutions as part of their vision for inclusive digital access.

Through the KDEAP, Kenya is working towards an inclusive, innovative, and future-ready digital economy. This project is a testament to Kenya's commitment to digital transformation, a crucial step towards becoming a leading player in the global digital economy.
