Kickoff of Europe's Championship by Bayern Munich

The THW (Technisches Hilfswerk), Germany's federal deployment organisation, is gearing up for the UEFA European Football Championship 2024. With a vast array of specialists, technology, and experience at its disposal, the THW is ready to ensure the safety and smooth running of the tournament.

The championship, scheduled from June 14 to July 14, 2024, will see Munich hosting six matches, including the opening match on June 14. The THW's role in Munich will be multifaceted, involving logistics, specialist advice, and setting up carrier teams in the Munich football arena.

At peak times, around 200 THW personnel will be deployed. Each carrier team, consisting of four people, will be strategically positioned within the stadium to enable quick rescue of injured persons from steep stands. In addition, up to 70 ambulance vehicles with medical personnel will be on standby, ready to deploy to the stadium in case of an emergency.

The THW's work is not limited to Germany; it also provides aid and support internationally. The organisation's competencies are crucial for the successful execution of the UEFA European Football Championship 2024.

The THW's regional office in Bavaria can be contacted at (089) 15 91 51-0 or [email protected]. More information about the THW's commitment can be found on their website at https://www.thw.de/DE/THW/Organisation/Bundesanstalt/Landesverbaende/BY/by_node.html.

Four THW specialist advisors from Bavaria and eleven members of the Virtual Operations Support Team (VOST) will support the International Police Coordination Center (IPCC) in North Rhine-Westphalia during the European Championship. On match days, 20 local associations from North and South Bavaria will be active, with the local focus of the deployment tasks being on the state capital Munich.

The THW is in demand worldwide by various governmental bodies, including the federal government, for technical and logistical tasks. The organisation's work includes bilateral aid, tasks within the European Union's civil protection mechanism, and duties on behalf of UN organisations.

The German cities hosting matches of the UEFA European Championship 2024 outside of Munich are Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hannover, Köln, Leipzig, and Gelsenkirchen (Arena AufSchalke). As the tournament approaches, the THW continues to prepare meticulously to ensure the safety and success of the UEFA European Football Championship 2024.
