Lalit Modi responds to the circulated video from 2008's IPL Slapgate incident following Sreesanth's wife's criticism of its publication.

In a series of posts on social media, Bhuvneshwari Kumari, the wife of former Indian cricketer Sreesanth, has expressed her disapproval over the recent release of the 2008 slapgate incident involving her husband. The incident, which took place during the Indian Premier League (IPL), was first brought to light again in August 2025 when former IPL chairman Lalit Modi shared the footage on a podcast hosted by former Australian captain Michael Clarke.

Harbhajan Singh, another cricketer involved in the incident, has also expressed his displeasure. He stated that if given the chance, he would like to remove the slapgate incident from his career. Singh has previously apologised for his actions, expressing regret over the incident.

In her posts, Bhuvneshwari Kumari pleaded with Modi and Clarke, urging them to "Fear God. You are causing pain to families and innocent children for your own benefit." She emphasised the impact the incident has had on Sreesanth's family, stating that it is deeply painful for them to see the incident resurface after 18 years.

Sreesanth himself has not publicly responded to the recent release of the video. However, Bhuvneshwari Kumari's posts were re-shared by Sreesanth, indicating that he may have seen them.

The cricketer has rebuilt his life with dignity and grace after every hardship he faced. Despite the setbacks, he has maintained a positive attitude and continued to contribute to the sport.

Bhuvneshwari Kumari called the release of the video "disgusting, heartless, and inhuman." She emphasised that families are being forced to relive trauma that was buried decades ago due to the incident.

The 2008 IPL Slapgate incident has once again sparked a conversation about the impact of past controversies on the lives of athletes and their families. The cricket community continues to grapple with the implications of the incident, as calls for respect and empathy for those affected grow louder.
