Large-scale events disrupt regular S-Bahn service at Tempelhof station.
In an effort to ensure passenger safety during large events on Tempelhofer Field, the S-Bahn may omit the Tempelhof stop. This measure was first implemented on August 23rd and will also be necessary for the Giant Kite Festival on September 27th.
The omission of the station is due to a high number of passengers and narrow paths caused by supports securing the station after water damage. During peak times, passengers can only leave the station very slowly, which exacerbates the issue.
The modernization of the Tempelhofer S-Bahn station, including a second entrance on the eastern side of the Tempelhofer Damm, is planned for the early to mid-30s. However, the completion date of the repairs at Tempelhof S-Bahn station is currently uncertain.
Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe AöR (BVG) is carrying out the modernization of the station. Only after the concept is ready can the construction work at Tempelhof S-Bahn station be tendered. The spokesperson expects the concept for the repairs to be ready by this fall.
In the meantime, alternative travel options via Südkreuz station or the U-Bahn are recommended for S-Bahn passengers heading to large events at Tempelhofer Field. Tenders are being sought for the repairs at Tempelhof S-Bahn station.
It's important to note that the disruptions at Tempelhof S-Bahn station are expected to continue for some time. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider the recommended alternative travel options.
