Last-Minute Costs: Are Supplies Prices Higher?
In the heart of Brétigny-sur-Orge, Essonne, the local Auchan hypermarket has been buzzing with activity as parents and children gear up for the new school year. This year, back-to-school shopping accounts for an impressive 25% of the store's sales.
Vincent Carson, the director of the Auchan hypermarket, shared his enthusiasm about the season, stating, "We've been offering many sale prices and promotions since late June, and it's been a great success. Families like the Pirès family have been benefiting from these offers during their shopping."
The Pirès family, who were featured in a recent video report, are preparing for Lorenzo's first day of elementary school. With a budget of 100 euros for notebooks and pens, they were able to find everything they needed within the store. Lorenzo, a bright-eyed young boy, was seen picking out his backpack, pencil case, and planner.
On Saturday, August 30, over 1,200 people came to buy their supplies in the store. In total, over 8,500 items were purchased that day. This surge in demand is not surprising, given that school supplies have dropped by 3.4% in price this year.
If you'd like to see the full video report, you can find it above. It offers a closer look at the bustling store and the families making the most of the back-to-school sales.
