Late-night comedy show host Desi Lydic discusses the future of 'The Daily Show' and whether new Paramount leaders have requested changes, stating defiantly, "We aren't holding back."
Desi Lydic's Emmy Double Win and 10th Anniversary on The Daily Show
Desi Lydic, a prominent figure in the world of comedy, recently celebrated a significant milestone in her career - her 10th anniversary on The Daily Show. This occasion was made even more special as she took home not one, but two Emmy awards.
In the Performer in a Short Form category, Lydic was honoured for her contributions to the show. This was her first Emmy win in this category. But the accolades didn't stop there. Lydic shared the Outstanding Talk Series Emmy with the rest of the team at The Daily Show in 2024.
During her acceptance speech, Lydic expressed her gratitude and made a surprising mention, "I've been watching a lot of Fox News lately."
Lydic's wins came amidst a change in leadership at Paramount, with Skydance founder David Ellison stepping in as CEO and chairman. Despite the new leadership, Lydic shared that she hasn't been asked to tone down the political satire on The Daily Show.
Speaking about the state of late night, Lydic said, "The Daily Show isn't holding back and doesn't intend to." She further stated that the show hasn't been asked to change anything.
Lydic believes in the power of catharsis and laughter, expressing hope that the need for it continues. "There's a future for the late-night genre," she said optimistically.
In her acceptance speech at the Creative Arts Emmys, Lydic thanked the "Deep State" TV Academy. She went on to win in the Performer in a Short Form Comedy category at the same event, marking her second Emmy win of the year.
Despite the changes and challenges, Lydic remains hopeful about the future of The Daily Show and the late-night genre as a whole. "I hope there's a future for us," she said, signing off with a smile.
