Latest speculations about the iPhone 17 unveiled - true predictions for next week's Apple presentation

Get ready for Apple's latest offering, the iPhone 17 series, set to make its grand debut on September 9. Here's a roundup of the rumoured features and improvements we might see in this year's models.

Starting with the design, the standard iPhone 17 is expected to resemble its predecessor, the iPhone 16, with a familiar layout of two rear cameras stacked vertically. However, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are rumoured to feature large camera blocks running horizontally across their rear panels.

In terms of the camera, there are whispers of an upgrade to the telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Some sources suggest a potential resolution increase from 12MP to 48MP, while others hint at a change in the telephoto camera's zoom range being better suited for portrait photography. Notably, an anonymous tipster has suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could be fitted with a 3.5x telephoto camera, down from the current 5x camera. Additionally, the 8x optical zoom camera, if true, would come with a moving lens that allows for some level of continuous variable zoom.

The display is another area where Apple might make significant strides. All four iPhone 17 models are rumoured to get 120Hz displays, a welcome upgrade for smoother scrolling and gaming experiences. However, reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will continue to use Apple's adaptive ProMotion display technology, while the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will have static 120Hz refresh rates.

Moving on to performance, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are also rumoured to possibly launch with an 8x optical zoom camera. The vapor chamber cooling system, a type of cooling that works by coolant liquid turning into a gas as it absorbs heat, is said to be implemented in these new Pro iPhones. This marks Apple's first use of this technology in iPhones, moving beyond graphite sheets to improve thermal management. It's very likely that Apple will use vapor chamber cooling in the new Pro iPhones, given that rival Android phones use it.

Lastly, there are some suggestions of a modest increase in wired charging capability for the entire iPhone 17 series, from 30W to 35W. Additionally, rumors also suggest that this year's iPhones could get faster wireless charging to the tune of 25W or even 50W, thanks to the incorporation of the Qi 2.2 standard.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the iPhone 17 launch event on September 9!
