Latest Transfer Update: Wissa Pushes for Transition, Chelsea's Jackson Showing Anger amid Dispute
In a bid to address the team's struggles in front of goal, Newcastle United's boss, Eddie Howe, has set his sights on a 23-year-old German striker, Yoane Wissa. The striker, who has joined Newcastle for a club-record £65m, is currently with Brentford, but a transfer saga seems to be unfolding.
Wissa, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, has reportedly expressed his desire to join Newcastle. In July, he flew home early from Brentford's training camp in Portugal, making his intentions clear. Brentford, however, has been reluctant to let him go, with an initial offer of £35m (€40m) plus add-ons being rejected.
Recently, Wissa has not been training with the rest of head coach Keith Andrews' squad, and his omission after last week's win over Aston Villa was explained by Andrews as a decision to ensure his players were "absolutely committed."
Brentford, however, has now reportedly agreed to allow Wissa to leave before the transfer deadline, with the striker holding open discussions with the club's senior management. Wissa claims that Brentford has now significantly changed its position and is going against what was communicated.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United's future for Alexander Isak remains undecided, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the potential signing of Wissa.
Chelsea, on the other hand, is dealing with its own transfer issues. Liam Delap picked up a hamstring injury during Chelsea's 2-0 win over Fulham, causing a delay in Nicolas Jackson's move to Bayern Munich. Jackson, a 24-year-old striker, was recalled from Bayern due to Delap's injury, but he is reportedly upset with Chelsea's decision. Enzo Maresca, Chelsea's head coach, confirmed that Delap will likely be out for 6 to 8 weeks.
In response, Chelsea is reportedly exploring a move for Conrad Harder from Sporting Lisbon as a possible contingency. Harder, a 20-year-old Denmark international, could provide a replacement for Delap during his recovery period.
