Law enforcement authorities are conducting a search at the central rail station.
In a joint operation on Saturday night, over 70 officers from federal and state police conducted targeted checks at Hamburg Central Station. The operation, which aimed to uncover the hidden use of dangerous objects, saw more than 2300 people checked for tickets by Hochbahn employees.
The checks revealed that more than 150 people without tickets were found during the operation. However, the operation did not result in any new cases of wanted persons being apprehended or the confiscation of illegal knives or drugs. Six illegal knives and pepper spray were seized during the checks by the police, but it's important to note that these items were not part of the operation's main focus.
Federal police spokesman Rüdiger Carstens stated that weapons of any kind have no place in public transport. He also emphasised that the operation did not focus on apprehending wanted persons or confiscating drugs or illegal knives, but rather on ensuring the safety of the public.
It's worth noting that a weapons ban has been in effect around the Hamburg Central Station since October 2023, and the Senate also banned weapons and dangerous objects in the entire public local transport at the end of last year.
Elsewhere, two high-risk individuals, Aldi (Erald) Mustafa and Arbi Haxhiu, were arrested by police in Durrës within the last two years. They were found with loaded pistol-like firearms, and Mustafa was wanted for involvement in an August 13, 2025, explosion incident in an apartment. These arrests were part of a police operation against illegal weapons possession and public danger.
In a separate incident, five wanted persons were apprehended by the federal police, and drugs were confiscated in three cases during the operation. One person wanted on a warrant was taken into custody.
While the operation at Hamburg Central Station did not yield the results expected in terms of illegal weapons or drugs, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain safety in public spaces. The operation was carried out by DB Security and the Hochbahnwache, with no involvement from state police, unlike the previous operation.
