Law enforcement authorities detained an individual driving a vehicle reported as stolen

In the early hours of Saturday, September 6, a 16-year-old resident of Bochum found himself at the centre of a dramatic series of events that left a trail of destruction in the cities of Bochum and Witten.

The ordeal began around 3:30 AM when police attempted to stop a vehicle in Bochum-Langendreer. However, instead of complying, the driver, who was later identified as the 16-year-old, fled the scene.

The vehicle, which had stolen license plates from Bochum-Langendreer, sped through Bochum and Witten, disregarding red lights and other traffic rules. This reckless behaviour culminated in a traffic accident in Witten, where the driver crashed the car into a tree on Hauptstraße.

Thankfully, the driver himself remained uninjured. However, the incident resulted in severe injuries for two female passengers, aged 14 and 18, from Dortmund, who were rushed to the hospital. Two other passengers, a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old, both from Bochum, sustained minor injuries.

The aftermath of the accident revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in Bochum city centre between September 4 and 5. The vehicle was no longer roadworthy and was subsequently seized by the authorities.

A blood sample taken from the 16-year-old driver showed an alcohol level of 0.42 percent. This revelation, combined with the fact that the driver could not present a valid driver's license, led to a comprehensive criminal complaint against him. The charges include car theft, driving without a license, and endangering traffic.

The estimated property damage from this incident exceeds 20,000 euros. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers and consequences of reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic rules.
