Unauthorized Gathering at Rosenthaler Platz and Hackescher Markt Leads to Criminal Investigations

In an unexpected turn of events, an unauthorized gathering at Rosenthaler Platz and Hackescher Markt in the heart of Berlin took place last evening, drawing the attention of over 300 law enforcement officers.

The gathering, primarily attended by protesters and activists, was promoted on social media by a mix of grassroots groups and activist organisations, with no specific individuals or groups being publicly identified.

As the evening progressed, around 100 individuals moved back and forth between the two locations. The situation escalated as criminal, prohibited slogans were shouted from the crowd, leading to approximately 80 individuals being stopped, contained, and checked.

In response to the unauthorized gathering, all individuals on Rosenthaler Straße were ordered to disperse. Unfortunately, some individuals displayed verbal aggression towards law enforcement officers, and a few had to be forcibly removed.

The unauthorized gathering lasted from 6 PM and resulted in a total of 94 people, including 70 women and 24 men, being subject to freedom-restricting measures.

In the aftermath of the gathering, 96 criminal investigations were initiated. These investigations include cases of the use of unconstitutional and terrorist symbols, assault and resistance against law enforcement officers, insults, assault and battery, and unauthorized residence.

The Berlin Police are urging the public to respect the laws and regulations regarding public gatherings and to avoid any actions that could potentially lead to confrontations with law enforcement officers. They remind everyone that freedom of speech is a fundamental right, but it must be exercised responsibly and peacefully.
