Law enforcement official killed, three alleged terrorists defeated in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In a tragic turn of events, a cowardly terrorist attack on police personnel in the Lachi area of Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has claimed the lives of at least 100 people and left 189 others injured. The shootout took place on Saturday, marking another unfortunate incident in a series of cross-border terror incidents that have surged in Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of KP and Balochistan, since 2021.
According to the Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Kohat, Abbas Majeed Marwat, three terrorists were neutralized in the shootout. Sadly, the incident resulted in the martyrdom of a police officer named Inspector Ashfaq and two other officers who were injured.
Among the fatalities, 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees lost their lives. Of the injured, 126 were members of the security forces and 63 were civilians.
This attack follows a string of terrorist activities in June, during which Pakistan witnessed 78 terrorist attacks. These incidents led to a total of 175 deaths.
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is suspected to be responsible for the terrorist attack in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this month, a terrorist attack on a checkpost in KP's Bannu district left one police personnel martyred and three militants dead.
The surge in terrorist attacks has put a significant strain on police and law enforcement agencies in the province. The government and the security forces remain committed to maintaining peace and security and will continue to take decisive action against terrorism.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the families of the victims during this difficult time. The nation stands united in its resolve to combat terrorism and ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for all.
