Law enforcement officials apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in a case of arson.
In the early hours of 4th September, 2025, a fire broke out at an occupied residential container in Koenigslutter's Rieseberger Weg. The strong smell of smoke and visible flames prompted immediate action from the local authorities.
Upon arrival, the fire department successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. However, the interior of the container was heavily smoked, and there was some building damage. Fortunately, all residents, including a 14-year-old and a 23-year-old, were safely evacuated unharmed.
The sleeping residents were quickly awoken and evacuated, ensuring their safety. The police and ambulance crew checked the 18 and 42-year-old men on the premises, finding no need for medical treatment.
Two suspects, aged 18 and 42, were temporarily detained for further investigation. The 42-year-old was found to be heavily intoxicated, with a voluntary alcohol test showing a reading of 2.9 per mille. A blood sample was taken for further analysis.
Investigations into the arson case are ongoing. Fire investigators suspect a connection between the incident on 4th September in Rieseberger Weg and the arson case from 15th August in StraΓe Im Kirchwinkel. However, there are no publicly disclosed suspects related to the latter incident.
The public prosecutor's office in Braunschweig did not apply for a warrant of arrest for either suspect in the recent arson case. Both suspects were released after the police measures were completed.
