In a significant development in an ongoing investigation, four suspects were arrested on August 19, 2025, in connection with a series of ATM bombings that took place in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.

The investigation, led by the Düsseldorf Police and ZeOS NRW, began in 2024 following an ATM explosion in Solingen. The case expanded as more incidents were reported, involving five other ATM explosions in Bottrot, Ennigerlohe, Medebach, Gänserndorf (Austria), and Neusiedl am See (Austria).

The arrested suspects include two Dutch nationals aged 28 and 32, a 19-year-old German national from Bochum, and a 25-year-old Dutch national. Europol has provided extensive support to the German, Dutch, and Austrian law enforcement agencies during the cross-border investigations.

Search warrants were executed for nine objects in Bochum and s'Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), resulting in the discovery and securing of extensive evidence. Austrian law enforcement agencies joined the investigation after ATM explosions in Austria in February 2025.

The perpetrators made off with a mid-six-figure sum and caused significant property damage at all crime scenes. Arrest warrants were issued and served against the four suspects arrested in Austria.

Until a final conviction, the suspects are considered innocent. The investigations, including the evaluation of the evidence found, are ongoing.

This cross-border operation underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating crime. The authorities involved are working diligently to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
