Dortmund Police Issue Warning Against Telephone and Doorstep Fraud

The Dortmund Police have issued a warning to the public regarding telephone and doorstep fraud, following a recent incident in the city.

On June 21st, an 87-year-old woman from Lünen fell victim to fraudulent activities. The incident took place in Dortmund (Case No.: 0546). At around 12:30 PM, unknown suspects posing as police officers called the elderly woman, claiming that her son was involved in a severe traffic accident. The suspects then demanded money, initially asking for 70,000 euros to be paid to the public prosecutor's office.

The woman was instructed to hand over the money at 3:15 PM on the Spormeckerplatz parking lot in front of the northern entrance of Lünen District Court. However, the information about who took the money package at this location on Sunday morning is not publicly available.

The suspects used a serious traffic accident as a pretext for their fraudulent activities. The Dortmund Police have emphasised that this incident serves as a general reminder to be vigilant against such scams.

The warning was transmitted via news aktuell and was issued by the Polizei Dortmund. It does not provide any new information about the previous fraud suspects or the recovered money. The warning was not specific about any new fraud incidents.

Inquiries about this message should be directed from June 23rd onwards. The press and public relations office of Dortmund Police can be contacted for further information regarding the warning.

The Dortmund Police urge the public to be cautious and to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer before providing any personal or financial information. If you suspect that you have been a victim of fraud, please contact your local police department immediately.
